APHI 602 - Production, Exchange, and Value

Credit Hours: 3

This course surveys the economic development of one culture or multiple cultures in  historical perspective. It considers how such development both affects, and is affected by, material, social, and cultural conditions. Of special concern will be the ways in which economic development both expresses and determines cultural values: how it may serve to build or destroy patterns of living, transform or conserve ideological systems, integrate or alienate particular people, incite war or keep peace, liberate or enslave. Multiple perspectives or theories on the relationship of economy to culture will be presented for discussion and debate.
