APHI 611 - Objects and Material Culture

In this course students will analyze the relationship between people and their things. Students will learn how and why people valued certain objects as they did, the history of the production and trade of objects, the cultural meanings of objects, and the change in those meanings over time. Students will “read” objects as historical texts and learn how to present those objects as sources of understanding about the past.
