MECH 316 - Fluid Mechanics w/Lab


Credit Hours: 3

This course provides students with an introduction to principal concepts of fluid mechanics. Topics covered in the course include fluid statics and hydrostatics force, Application of Bernoulli equations, Fluid velocity and acceleration fields, Reynolds Transport Theorem, Conservation of mass and momentum for moving fluids, Differential analysis of fluid flow, Inviscid potential flow, Navier-Stokes equations, Dimensional analysis, Modeling and Similarity, Viscous flow through pipes, Pump characteristics and scaling laws, and external flow (lift and drag on objects). Laboratory exercises are integrated with classroom concepts.
Laboratory: 2 hours.
Lecture: 2 hours
Prerequisites: PHYS 221, CIVL 203 , MATH 231, MATH 234
