Overview

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship offers those who pursue a major through the department an opportunity to prepare themselves deliberatively, rationally, and intentionally to develop careers as principled leaders in their future endeavors. Engagement in management and entrepreneurship classes within the department prepares students to lead diverse employees, recognize organizational opportunities, and make sound critical decisions as they proceed in their career.

The Department offers a major in management. The Department is also responsible for two minors: business administration and entrepreneurship. The curriculum builds the basics of business fundamental knowledge, ethical decision-making and allows students to recognize the trends of today’s business environment. Students are exposed to a unique blend of classroom and applied experiential learning opportunities to aid them in selecting a career and to prepare them for today’s dynamic global environment.

As a principled manager and entrepreneur, students will develop the knowledge and skills to build trust, inspire commitment, build teams, and lead change. Students will also learn how to promote creativity and innovation.

The undergraduate programs also provide insights and guidance regarding how to assess the moral and ethical dimensions of business decisions. All students in the Management and Entrepreneurship Department are strongly encouraged to undertake at least one organizational internship, as well as to study abroad.

Innovation Lab

The Department oversees the Baker School of Business Innovation Lab, which functions as an idea hub for entrepreneurially-minded students across campus. The Lab’s mission is to “create principled change agents of innovation that solve complex problems.” To achieve this, we teach students to think creatively to solve business problems of all sizes.
