Overview

The Department of Accounting and Finance prepares students for successful careers in the financial services industry, offering two distinct majors-Accounting and Finance-as well as an Accounting Minor. Each program provides students the opportunity to excel in a specialized area of study, earning a degree or credential that directly contributes to business and organizational success.

Accounting and finance are closely interconnected fields focused on measuring, analyzing, and evaluating performance. Accountants work to ensure the integrity of financial information, compliance with standards, and accurate reporting for decision-making. Finance professionals pursue a broad range of career paths including corporate finance, banking, investment management, risk management, private equity, insurance, and wealth advisory services. Together, these disciplines form the foundation of organizational growth, strategic planning, and financial leadership across industries.

Our dedicated faculty are committed to delivering a high-quality educational experience, enriched by active research, professional engagement, and mentorship. Citadel alumni have gone on to distinguished careers in accounting and finance, blending academic excellence with the core values and leadership principles of The Citadel.

Rick & Mary Lee Bastin Financial Leadership Lab

The Rick & Mary Lee Bastin Financial Leadership Lab is a state-of-the-art facility designed to simulate a real-world trading floor environment. Equipped with the latest technology and professional-grade financial data platforms, the lab bridges the gap between academic theory and real-world practice.

Key features of the lab include:

  • Nine Bloomberg Terminals, providing real-time market data, analytics, and trading tools used by top financial institutions worldwide.
  • Home to the Baker School of Business Student-Managed Investment Fund, where students actively manage a portfolio of more than $1 million in assets.

Through coursework and experiential learning, students develop advanced skills in portfolio management, financial modeling, market analysis, and leadership-preparing them for immediate impact in the financial services industry.

The lab also serves as the headquarters for the Citadel Financial Management Association, offering additional leadership and hands-on learning opportunities.
