Mission
The mission of B.S. in Computer Science program with a concentration in Data Science is to educate and train the students on Data Science skillset that are needed in the Industry and Government Agencies. Students will take classes in Python Programming, Data Mining, Applied Statistics, Applications of Data Analytics and Development, and Data Analysis.
Target Audience
Students who are interested in pursuing a career as a Data Scientist, or as a Data Analyst in the Industry or Government Agencies need to select this concentration.
Student Learning Outcomes
Within five years of graduation, alumni of the B.S. program in Computer Science should be:
- Conducting successful career in computer science disciplines and/or pursuing graduate study in computer science.
- Demonstrating life-long learning skills and adapting to emerging markets and technologies.
- Embracing high personal and professional standards of conduct, citizenship, and service.
Student Outcomes (SOs) for B.S. in Computer Science
- Graduates of the program will have an ability to:
- Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
- Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
- Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
- Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
- Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
- Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.

ROTC Course Requirements:
ROTC course requirements apply to members of the SCCC only:
- Cadets contracted or pursuing a contract should take 8 semesters of ROTC.
- Cadets not contracted or pursuing a contract should take 4 semesters of ROTC Basic and 4 semesters of ROTC fulfilment courses. Available ROTC fulfillment courses are published online annually by the department of Leadership Studies.
- ROTC courses typically carry 1 to 3 hours of credit, depending on the level. ROTC fulfillment courses typically carry 3 hours of credit. See the course descriptions for specific information.
Required For Graduation
Required Hours for graduation are 124 plus the successful completion of all required LDRS, ROTC, & RPED degree requirements.
