Mission Statement
The mission of The Citadel’s Master of Science in Leadership program is to enhance the ability of students from any academic background and level of professional experience to perform effectively as principled leaders in their present or future leadership roles.
The Masters of Science in Leadership’s integrated curriculum of interdisciplinary courses engage students in comprehensive understanding of leadership in applied contexts. Designed for individuals seeking to develop leadership competencies and enhance their career progression, the curriculum allows students to tailor the focus of their study toward individual and career interests.
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate foundational leadership theories and apply the theories in the practice of leadership.
- Conduct leadership self-appraisal, reflecting on strengths and weaknesses and ways to improve.
- Articulate a vision and create a change process that inspires stakeholders to attain shared goals.
- Develop, apply, and evaluate theories that promote teamwork and collaboration in organizations.
- Analyze situations using ethical approaches, and apply a principled approach to making decisions.
- Demonstrate intercultural competence, appreciating other cultural ideas, behaviors, and beliefs.
- Apply appropriate analysis techniques to investigate complex situations, develop informed decisions, and evaluate outcomes.
Admission Requirements
- Completion of the online graduate application along with the non-refundable application fee.
- Official transcripts from the undergraduate institution conferring the applicant’s bachelor degree and transcripts from all postgraduate institutions attended.
Provisional Acceptance: Students may be provisionally accepted into the MS degree program if their undergraduate preparation is weaker than our typical admit. Upon completion of the first nine hours of degree coursework, with a minimum GPA of 3.25, the student is considered fully admitted.

Program Requirements
The Master of Science in Leadership is a 30 credit-hour program consisting of the following requirements:
Leadership (8 Core Courses; 24 credit hours)
Electives (Select 2 Courses; 6 credit hours)
Students may choose any LDRS graduate course not previously required for the degree to satisfy the elective requirement. Other appropriate courses may be approved by the Chair.
