Objectives:
The minor in Chinese, French, German, or Spanish builds on skills developed in the elementary/intermediate sequence, taking the student beyond practical proficiency to more sophisticated modes of discourse and greater understanding of social norms.
Competencies, Knowledge, or Skills to Be Achieved:
Employing the latest technology, instruction in advanced conversation and composition expands and refines expression in social and professional contexts. Course in the Department’s various summer study-abroad programs offer total immersion and highly individualized tutorials. Courses in civilization and culture, business language, and literature, in addition to promoting greater fluency, introduce to areas of specialization within the discipline.
Many language majors, recognizing the considerable advantages of versatility in the marketplace, now declare a minor in another language.

Structure of the Minor (Chinese, French, German & Spanish)
Required Courses: 5 courses after 201
- 202
- 301 or 302 (in the chosen language)
- Three upper-level elective courses in the chosen language taken at The Citadel or in a Citadel study-abroad program. One of which must be at the 400-level.
Total Credit Hours Required:
15 hours in one language after 201 at least 9 of which must be completed at The Citadel after the completion of the of Language placement exam.
