Objectives

The minor in aerospace science gives students an opportunity to acquire an understanding of aerodynamics in the broad sense. The physics of flight, of
propulsion, and of the atmosphere will be addressed through an understanding of fluid dynamics. This minor can be taken by students with the approval of the department head.

Competencies, Knowledge, or Skills to be Achieved

Completing this minor will provide an understanding of the basic principles of fluid dynamics as it applies to the flight of aircraft, their lift, thrust, stability, and control, as well as the atmosphere in which that aircraft flies. The principles of fluid dynamics will be also applied to hydrodynamics and the “flight” of boats and ships in and on the sea. External and internal fluid flow is covered such that propulsion systems will be addressed.

Structure of the Minor:

Required Courses: (5 Credit Hours)

Elective Courses: (11 Credit Hours of which Only 3 can be at the 200 Level)

Projected Course of Study

Total Credit Hours Required:

16, at least 9 of which must be completed at The Citadel. Note: Students majoring in Physics may apply only one required physics course to both the Physics Major and the Aerospace Minor.

For further information, please contact the Department of Physics.
