Sport Management Major

The mission of the sport management program is to educate and cultivate strong-minded leaders to master the sport of positive changes in our modern society.

Our mission aligns with the core values of health, integrity, leadership, respect, and service. The program advances the education of our students through the continuous pursuit of teaching, research, and service. Our program’s innovative curriculum leads students to acquire skills, knowledge, and competence for graduate-level education and leadership positions in professions of the global sports industry, such as interscholastic and intercollegiate athletics, recreation, amateur, and professional sports organizations.

Student Learning Outcomes

By completing the B.S. in sport management, students will:

  1. Understand, interpret, conduct, and present research within Sport, Recreation, and all related subject areas.
  2. Correlate lectures with research/business plan experiences.
  3. Be trained to be influential professionals in future careers and educational endeavors.

Note:


  • Students must complete four strand courses, which may be completed in any order: English (ENGS 30X  ), History (HISS 30X  ), Social Science (SCSS 30X  ), and Science (NTSS 30X  ).

ROTC Course Requirements:


ROTC course requirements apply to members of the SCCC only:

  • Cadets contracted or pursuing a contract should take 8 semesters of ROTC.
  • Cadets not contracted or pursuing a contract should take 4 semesters of ROTC Basic and 4 semesters of ROTC fulfilment courses. Available ROTC fulfillment courses are published online annually by the department of Leadership Studies.
  • ROTC courses typically carry 1 to 3 hours of credit, depending on the level. ROTC fulfillment courses typically carry 3 hours of credit. See the course descriptions for specific information.

Required For Graduation


123 credit hours plus successful completion of all RPED, ROTC, and LDRS graduation requirements. ROTC hours (credits, lectures, and labs) vary each semester by military department.
