Exercise Science Major

The B.S. in Exercise Science is designed to provide an exemplary educational environment and experiences leading to acquisition of skills, knowledge and attitudes within scientific understanding and application of human movement and performance. The major is intended for students with a passion for helping people achieve optimal health or performance through human movement. Competence within these areas contributes to preparing our students for graduate education and leadership positions in health and allied health professions, public and private health agencies and the wellness and fitness industry.

All undergraduate courses taken at The Citadel with a subject prefix of EXSC, HLED, PHED, PSYC, and RPED will count towards the major GPA.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Exercise Science majors will be trained to be effective professionals in future careers and educational endeavors
  2. Exercise Science majors will demonstrate knowledge to assess human performance of diverse populations.
  3. Exercise Science majors will understand, conduct, and present research within the area of their field of study.

Competencies, Knowledge, or Skills to be Achieved

A student who completes this major will possess the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities to help:

  • People improve their health and physical fitness.
  • Athletes improve their training and performance.
  • Patients recover from injury and disease through human movement rehabilitation.

General Electives

A student in the Exercise Science degree must complete four (4) general elective courses. Courses used to complete these requirements must be a minimum of 3 credit hours. ROTC courses may not be used to fulfill this requirement.
