EDUC 480 - Internship in Teacher Education I

Credit Hours: 3

EDUC 480 is an Internship course, which students will take concurrently with EDUC 481, in which students create unit plans, classroom management plans, lesson plans, and assessments for the specific classroom environment in which they complete their student teaching experience. During EDUC 480, students will reflect upon specific problems of practice which arise during Internship II, and monitor and adjust planned instruction in light of their assessment of students. During course meetings, pedagogical experts lead groups of students to analyze student work, co-plan, rehearse, and reflect upon their teaching with a pedagogical expert and with multiple peers, which is a key aspect of preservice teachers’ opportunities for professional learning, as the research on teacher education consistently attests (e.g., Westheimer, 2005; Grossman et al., 2009; Kane, 2020; Lampert et al., 2013).
