HIST 318 - U.S. Urban History Credit Hours: 3
From colonial outposts to twenty-first century metropolises, this course will consider the development of American urban life over four centuries. What has drawn Americans to cities and towns? How have cities been shaped by culture and commerce? By their connections to rural areas? By migration and immigration, industrialization and technological change, race suburbanization? This course will also examine regional differences in urban development, as well as changing ideas of the relationship between urban spaces and the natural world.
