Civil and Environmental Engineering Minor

Objective:

Provide students from STEM departments the opportunity to obtain a minor in a civil engineering technical discipline, including structural or environmental. The minor in Civil Engineering will provide students with practical knowledge; quantitative and scientific aptitudes and basic level of competence in structural or environmental engineering.

Competencies, Knowledge, or Skills to be Achieved:

A student who completes this minor will have the opportunity to develop a basic competency in civil engineering, apply basic engineering principles to another field, stimulate creative thinking, and develop problem solving skills. Through the elective field of emphasis, the student will achieve additional knowledge or skill in either structures or environmental.

Additional Course Options (Select 5+ credit hours):


Plan of Study:


  • Students should complete the “Core Courses” in their selected emphasis area and then select from the list of “Additional Course Options” until the 15 minimum credit hour requirement is met.
  • Students must meet all the pre/corequisites as presented in the course descriptions.
  • Course substitutions may be accepted on the basis of course content by the Civil Department Head.
  • At least 9 credit hours of the minor must be completed at The Citadel and 12 credit hours may not count toward the student’s academic major.
